I'll be frank: I don't like RAs. Most of the ones I've dealt with have been obtrusive and overbearing. But the thing about college is, it takes money. So for summer cash, I agreed to be an RA at a highschooler camp.

What the hell was I thinking?

College kids can be annoying and immature, but at least they don't giggle so damn much. There's a 14-year-old here I'm about ready to strangle and hogtie with a power cord. Right now I'm not guaranteeing all these campers survive the rest of the week.

And it just keeps getting better. Two girls want to share a room 'cause they're both on their period (I don't get it...?), and one just told the male RA she's run out of birth control pills. We have decided she can wait two days to get more. He says he can't take anymore awkward conversations with girls, and he's tired of going to the store to buy tampons for 15-year-olds. So am I, for that matter.

3 weeks confined to one dormitory floor may be too much for anyone's sanity.

He'd better go home for that, fangirls or no.

Phil had his best ever. Melinda is still a huge cut above. Beautiful. LaKisha was very very good. Still liked Gina. Decent performance, great voice. Blake's re-arrangement should never ever be heard again. I'm in agreement with Simon about Haley this week. She should stay. And Jordin. Wow. She stood up there with the top two tonight.

And Chris R, as usual, annoyed me. Stop singing through your nose, dude! Simon's dead on with this one.

Please leave, Sanjaya. The song choice was terrible, the dancing was weak, and the vocals would've gotten you booed out of a high school talent show.

Antonella is out! *cue massive celebration*

Phil should have gone home. Sundance definitely should not have gone home (what the heck?). Sanjaya is still there because he has fans.

But I called Haley as a Top 12 dark horse a couple weeks ago when it started to become clear who the powerhouse girls were. Problem was, Lakisha, Melinda, Stephanie, Jordin, and Sabrina were all similar types of singers. The vote probably got split a bit between them, plus the fact that Haley's style is very different from the other top girls. But of those 5, I think Sabrina was the one who was...shall we say, least disappointing to lose.

Not happy Chris R is through, but I can live with it. He's not horrible, he just seems so generic and not particularly talented as of yet. Very relieved that Gina is through. It's always been hard enough to be a rocker on Idol. Being a rocker with the level of talent she was up against with those other girls? Not a lot of margin of error for her there. But it's all good for another week now.

    <lj:music>Pat Benatar -- Heartbreaker</lj:music>

Blake should make it through, no prob. He's unique, he's fun, he's modern. I really liked him tonight, and usually I'm fairly critical of him.

Sundance should make it though, too, I think. He's one of the better guys in both voice and personality.

Chris S. had the best vocal of the night, he's generally solid, and he's fun. He should definitely be back.

Sanjaya has a very good shot. He had a decent performance (I liked him so much better than last week), and he's clearly got a pretty big fanbase already built up.

As I have throughout, I liked Brandon. The song may not have been the catchiest, but it had much more energy than what he's done so far, and he does have a good voice. He's not totally safe, but I'd like him in the Top 12.

I liked Jared tonight. More personality, less creepiness in that he wasn't dedicating "Let's Get It On" to his parents. I think the song was good enough to give him a legit Top 12 chance.

Phil is in trouble. Actually, I'd say he's in the most trouble out of the guys. The song was only decent, and his rendition doesn't compare well to the original. As is usual with Phil, the beginning was just bad. Will probably (and deservedly) be gone next week.

Chris R. I have never particularly liked, and I felt justified in that opinion tonight. He was inconsistent and off-key several times. I don't want him in the Top 12, and I just really can't bring myself to like him nearly as much as the judges seem to.

And AJ was good enough to stand up with most of these guys tonight. Still a bit bummed he got the boot last week. Get rid of Phil, Chris R, and Jared, and bring AJ back, okay?
_________________

Antonella NEEDS TO GO HOME. It will shake my faith in humanity('s musical tastes) if someone who's only good enough to make a decent showing in a karaoke bar beats out a great singer tomorrow.

Haley should go home. She's a nice girl, she's better than Antonella (though voice-wise Leslie may have had her beat), she deserved to be in the Top 24; she just can't stand up with the best 6 girls.

Jordin should be in. Loved the song (wasn't the best rendition I've ever heard, but very good), she's got the personality, she's got the voice.

Sabrina should be in -- she's not the best singer, but she's one of the 6 best certainly.

Same with Stephanie, but I think she can be better than Sabrina if she'd open up with the originality. She knows how to perform. Should be in.

Lakisha is freakin' amazing once again. 'Nuff said.

GINA! Finally we see the rock (even though I still loved her last two performances). That was a heck of a performance. She may not technically be the best singer, but I absolutely love her voice. I always have. And she's different from the other 5 best girls. I would be seriously unhappy if she doesn't make it through.

Melinda. Has. Everything. She's just unbelievable. Her voice is amazing, she's crazy humble, she's beautiful, she's a better performer than most pros. Just wow.

Should be kicked off:
Haley
ANTONELLA(!!!!!)

I'm not shocked that Leslie got kicked off, but I think she should have had one more week.

I have a growing dislike for Antonella's inability to sing well (and her attitude) and the people who keep voting for her anyway.

Song choice, vocals, polish. All check. Top 12.

Melinda: Amazing. What a year this could be. Top 12.

Stephanie: She's fun, she's friendly, she looks like Fantasia. I really like her, even though I think she was better than the song she picked. Top 12.

Leslie: She's alright. I'm never going to be her biggest fan. She's simply not the best. And half the song was random sounds. :P But she's a good performer, so we'll see. She should stay around for another week.

Haley: Good energy! Very good performer. I did like her last week, I like her this week... She isn't the best singer, but she is good and fun. Could be a dark horse for the Top 12, but also could be kicked off tomorrow night (even though she doesn't deserve to be).

Sabrina: Big voice, but she's just a tad inconsistent. I wasn't wild about the song choice, but she does have a very good voice. She should be around for at least another week. Could be #6 girl for the Top 12.

My mom worries that the best, since they're all similar types of singers, will split the vote (like Jennifer, Fantasia, and LaToya did). But there are several who, if they don't make it to the Top 12, will have been seriously wronged IMO.

Should be kicked off: Antonella (!!!) and Alaina.

Vote for Spunky!

Hiya, guys. I'm here to pass on some exciting news. The uber-excellent homeschooling blog, Spunky Homeschool has been nominated for the annual Wizbang Blog Awards (this is a BIG deal in the blogosphere) in the Best Educational Blog category. But the competition is stiff. Spunky is up against an Ivy League gossip blog and a professor at Penn State among others. Both of this blogs are quite anti-homeschooler, and comments to their supporters have included:

"The important thing is that IvyGate and I crush the homeschoolers."

"Homeschoolers suck!"

"And seriously, we do need to beat the cr*p out of those homeschool freaks."

So let's show some homeschooler pride and beat these guys! You can vote once every 24 hours from each computer. Right now, Spunky has pulled back from being more than a thousand votes down to a few votes in the lead thanks to much effort from homeschooled bloggers, but supporters of Penn State professor Michael Berube have been sending out mass emails to try and bring their blog back into the lead before voting closes tomorrow. We need every vote possible in these last few hours to give Spunky the recognition she deserves.

So please, Vote Here and then pass this message along to everyone you know. Spunky is counting on you!

x-posted
(My apologies to the people on my flist who don't care.)
